In reply to Maryn. I try to simplify the issues so they are easily understood, whether it is about France or the USA. My main concern is the absence of clarity, of explanation of what is being done. For once, our Parliament is doing something constructive, trying to fix a situation everybody agrees is flawed while caring about the people who would be negatively impacted by any solution they implement.

In reply to Ryan Werner. As a French citizen, I feel entitled to state this about the French president. I am not American and I do not qualify any member of the Cabinet, including the president. The December issue's title is "appetite for destruction." I question the motivation to destroy the inner structure of the USA as a Federal country, if there is no clear plan for rebuilding something one can hope would be better. One can see this as a criticism of the American president or not.

I had to laugh when I read your comment, ” How much more ridiculous can French politics be? We can trust the French president to go even lower than that!” Oh, if U.S. politics were only that ridiculous, and the U.S. president went only that low. I have long maintained that the true national sport in France is promoting a presidential candidate as a savior the day before the election and then berating them for their atrocious performance for the entire five years after they are elected. The French need to see their gripes about their president in a much larger context. How happy I would be if my other president were only as bad as Macron. MDR!

Dear M. Taquet, I am a longtime reader. Thank you so much for bringing some clarity to the heated discussion of whether to charge VLS-TS visiteur holders for participation in the healthcare system. I now hold one of those visas, though I have not yet received my first French tax bill and thus do not know whether I will be levied for participation. But I know I speak for *many* US-originating migrants when I say that I would be happy to pay. I came to France out of a love for its values, and that includes its respect for the health of all its residents. Who would not want to support such a goal?

A procedure lasting more than a year is not normal at all. I do not have enough information to identify where the problem is. If you are getting récépissés, this means that you are dealing with préfecture and not with the website “étrangers en France.” You should have started the procedure by asking for the right to operate your business, “profession libérale” should be with “démarches simplifiées” website. This is the only analysis I can do. Your business is strong, and your earnings comply with the requirements. Furthermore, you have provided new documents to them, so your file is definitely active.

The new government has nothing to do with this. It has not been sworn in yet.

Hello there.

After a Master 2 and a titre de séjour RECE, I submited my dossier to change to Profession Libérale (on August 2023). My business is running from February 2023. I did 25,000 of CA on that year (2023), this year I estimate I’ll do at least 27,000 CA. During the process I’ve been given 4-5 récépissés with permission to do my activity. I’ve buyed an appartment on 2022 and a parking lot on 2024, paid my taxes, my dossier was very solid (I believe), but after 1 year and 2 months waiting for my titre de séjour I’m starting to wonder.

Why the hell they take so long and a decission has not been made? I live in Nice.

Do you think what is going on with the government is affecting me or could affect the delivery of a favorable decision? They asked me recently more URSSAF declarations. I sent them. All good, but still nothing. I’d love to have some advice on this.
